Ways to improve your credit
- Get your free reports at annualcreditreport.com and dispute any errors.
- Pay every bill on time. Payment history matters most.
- Pay down credit card balances, especially cards near their limit.
- Avoid opening new accounts right before you apply.
- Settle or set up payment plans for collections, and ask whether they can be reported as paid.
